APWA OKLAHOMA CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION AND REQUIREMENTS SCHOLARSHIP PURPOSE
The Oklahoma Chapter APWA has established a scholarship fund to provide financial assistance for students in higher education (college graduate or undergraduate) in order to promote awareness of the Public Works profession and encourage students to pursue careers in Public Works. The Oklahoma Chapter of APWA intends to award three scholarships in the amount of $1000 in 2019. Recipients will be selected in the Spring and the scholarship will be awarded to the recipients at the beginning of the following Fall semester. Checks will be mailed directly to the college or university.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS The following are eligibility requirements for award of scholarship: Enrolled in an accredited Oklahoma University in an engineering degree (i.e. civil or other applicable engineering degree), construction related degree, management degree, or other related technical degree program which benefits the Public Works profession Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater at the time of application Enrolled as a full‐time student (12 or more hours) Enrolling in the Fall semester of the 2019‐2020 school year as a Junior, Senior or Graduate Student A U.S. citizen
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Applicants will complete and submit the following: APWA Oklahoma Chapter Scholarship Application Form – see page 3. Essay – no more than 2 pages describing the following: o Why scholarship funding is desired or needed o Course of study or field and how your education relates to public works profession o Community involvement o Work history and related work responsibilities Copy of latest transcript Any of the following items which will be considered by the selection committee: o Letters of recommendation from professor or employer (no more than 2) o Proof of student membership in APWA or parent’s membership in APWA (provide APWA membership number) o Proof of parent’s current employment as a public works professional

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Scholarships postmarked past April 7th or received by e‐mail after April 7th will not be considered.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER SELECTION Prior to transfer of funds to the recipient’s school, scholarship awardee will request a letter from the school’s registrar to be sent to the selection committee indicating the awardee is enrolled as a full‐time student. Awardee will be asked to attend the luncheon of the APWA Oklahoma Annual Conference to receive recognition from the Chapter of the scholarship award. Recipients are expected to make every reasonable effort to attend the Conference lunch. Conference will be held May 20th at the in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. Awardee agrees at the end of the school year immediately following award of scholarship to inform the Oklahoma Chapter of the progress accomplished toward educational goals. Proof of completion of coursework should accompany progress update. The APWA Oklahoma Chapter reserves the right to request a refund from recipient if the recipient fails to attend. SELECTION CRITERIA The selection committee will consider applicants based on the following selection criteria:
Completeness of application and conformance of submission to application requirements Public Works career goals Academic achievement Community service Financial need Recipients will be notified no later than May 3rd, 2019.
