The Cyber Innovation Strategy Manager is responsible for coordinating activities contributing to the research and commercialization outcomes of the TU-Team8 Cyber Fellows Initiative. Specific responsibilities include: supporting recruitment of TU-Team8 Cyber Fellows, maximizing the value of external partnerships between TU and Industry, research consortia, cybersecurity organizations and/or other partners, and otherwise helping to source, prepare, and exploit research and business opportunities for faculty and students involved in the TU-Team8 Cyber Fellows initiative, managing the university’s participation in the TU-Team8 Cyber Fellows initiative. The successful candidate reports to the ENS Dean’s Office with dotted-line reporting to TIL’s Cyber & Analytics Manager. This individual will work closely with the Team8 Scientific Ecosystem and Ideation Director, the TIL Cyber and Analytics Manager, and TU faculty to coordinate the activities around Cyber Fellows project proposal and selection, student matching, and engaging faculty mentors and students toward delivering scientific breakthroughs and new commercial opportunities. The Cyber lead will also plan social and networking activities for Cyber Fellows.
This individual will help facilitate closer collaboration between TU and external stakeholders including researchers and industry partners. This includes identifying employer needs and communicating them back to faculty and operating a clearinghouse for summer internship and post-grad job placement, primarily for Cyber Fellows. The Innovation Lead will help facilitate and maintain robust partnerships between TU’s cyber research programs and government, industry, and other academic institutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in a STEM-related area, extensive experience in at least one institution of higher education, and 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in cyber-related area with demonstrated alliance building; must be comfortable in a culturally diverse academic environment; must be a skilled communicator to effectively relate to faculty, staff, students, trustees and other community business leaders; must have a fluent command of the English language and have strong written, oral, and presentation skills; ability to effectively handle multiple projects, involving cross-sector stakeholders, ability to travel regionally, nationally and internationally.
Additional qualifications: project management skills, including demonstrated ability to support complex projects against narrow timelines and various constraints, to prioritize among competing needs, and to manage multiple tasks with little supervision; desire to teach cyber courses which convey relevant industry experience; team player who possesses strong professional accountability, as well as individual ownership player with an ability to work in cross-functional environments.

TIL’s startup, academic innovation, and talent initiatives focus on catalyzing growth across five interconnected ecosystems, together called “Tulsa’s Tech Niche”: virtual health, energy tech, drones, cyber, and analytics.

The Cyber Innovation Strategy Manager will be responsible for coordinating Cyber Fellows program marketing and graduate student application pipeline development, as well as serve as a representative on the TU-Team8 Cyber Fellow Steering Committee. The TU-Team8 Cyber Fellows initiative allows graduate students to earn advanced degrees in STEM disciplines, including the newly established programs in the School of Cyber Studies. The Cyber Fellows initiative is designed for students seeking to advance cyber R&D across security, big data, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, creating new methods and commercially viable solutions that enable a secure and productive all-digital future. Utilizing their foundation in the cyber field and building upon TU’s history of industry partnerships that foster hands-on experience, the Cyber Innovation Strategy Manager will manage the growth of student interest and fellowship administration and cultivate the expansion of the opportunity into other industries. This role is funded by Tulsa Innovation Labs (TIL), an LLC of the George Kaiser Family Foundation, as part of an ongoing partnership with Tulsa University (TU) to leverage TU’s internationally renowned cybersecurity capabilities to drive cutting edge research, industry partnerships, and economic growth in the Tulsa region. https://cyberfellows.utulsa.edu/
