NSF-NCSES Research Fellowship

The National Science Foundation's (NSF) National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) is seeking a Research Fellow to participate in improving the documentation and resources available to researchers using NCSES business microdata made available through the Federal Statistical Research Data Centers (FSRDC) network and complement this with publicly available documentation to aid prospective researchers.

Where will I be located? 

 

This Research Fellowship is fully remote.

What will I be doing?

Under the mentorship of NSF-NCSES staff, you may participate in the following activities:

  • Improve survey documentation for all NCSES business microdata available through the FSRDC network including Survey of Industrial Research and Development SIRD, the Business Research and Development and Innovation Survey (BRDIS),the Business Enterprise and Research and Development Survey (BERD), and the Annual Business Survey (ABS). As appropriate, the documentation will be made available through working paper(s) presenting data descriptions and summary statistics and through the FSRDC network (i.e., protected under Title 13 and 26).
  • Produce programs that link NCSES surveys such as BERD and ABS with each other and with Census administrative data such as the Longitudinal Business Database.  
  • Collaborate with NCSES and Census to make recommendations for a sustainable approach to ensure appropriate microdata documentation is made available for future survey cycles.

To qualify for this opportunity, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older by the application deadline.
  • Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree received within the last 60 months or currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree. Selected candidate must provide proof of completion of degree requirements before the appointment can start.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.
