*Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
The Office of Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization (U.S. Department of Energy - EERE) is now accepting applications for a new fellow ready to make an impact in clean energy and innovative manufacturing technologies.
What will I be doing? AMMTO is seeking talented and passionate ORISE Fellows that can support technical, programmatic, strategic, and policy efforts that will meet clean energy goals and drive innovation in U.S. manufacturing. Fellows will collaborate closely with AMMTO staff – including several former Fellows – and will develop a broad understanding of the potential of new technologies as well as the barriers to technology deployment. With guidance from a mentor, you will learn how to:
- Utilize scientific expertise to support decision-makers in the areas of energy efficiency policy, planning, research, development, and communication
- Analyze technical needs and opportunities and the potential impacts of program and policy decisions
- Provide input for analysis on industrial decarbonization, circular economy, and workforce development
- Assess the potential for next generation materials and processes
- Evaluate approaches to achieve practical minimum energy requirements and minimum lifecycle energy to manufacture and deploy next generation technologies
- Identify and evaluate new materials efficiency, waste reduction and recycling technologies
- Act as a technical resource for AMMTO early stage applied research and development projects
These activities will be carried out in collaboration with a team of federal employees at all levels, other fellows, support service contractors, and National Lab experts.
Why should I apply? Innovation is central to AMMTO's vision, mission, and activities. New materials combined with innovative processing techniques can accelerate the transition of promising energy systems to improve the competitiveness, and ultimately strategic advantage, of U.S. manufacturing. To catalyze the adoption of cutting-edge clean energy technologies, AMMTO invests resources at critical decision points to help overcome technological barriers that could be seen as too risky for the private sector to take on alone. You will become part of a group of highly trained researchers, scientists, and engineers with the education, background, and experience to be part of the workforce that supports the DOE's mission in the future. You will enhance your education and training in many areas including, but not limited to: industrial decarbonization, renewable energy, energy policy, geothermal energy, bioenergy technologies, sustainable materials, workforce development research, supporting the growth of a modern, equitable manufacturing industry, technical collaboration with other programs, project management and development, and stakeholder engagement. You will have the opportunity to increase your marketability in multiple disciplines, collaborate with top scientists and engineers, and gain insight into career paths through your experiences and under the leadership of your mentor.
Where will I be located? Washington, D.C.
