Job Description
---
As a Climate Adaptation Science Center Summer Intern, you will work with the University Assistant Director and partners at the Conservation and Adaptation Strategy Toolbox (CCAST) to research and author case studies about how natural resource managers are adapting to climate change. The peer-reviewed, public-facing case studies serve as the foundation for Communities of Practice and often document projects that are not otherwise publicly communicated. Individuals selected for this position will have the unique opportunity to build their network by working with a large group of professionals in science communication, wildlife and water management, and climate adaptation. Our Interns will learn about the organizational collaboration necessary to solve large, complex human-environmental challenges, guided by CCAST and CASC mentors and coordinators who will help develop scientific and technical writing skills.
Topics of the case-studies may include:
- Tribal perspectives and partnerships for conservation in a changing climate
- Efforts by Tribal Nations and other Indigenous Peoples to conserve species of concern
- Climate-informed coastal ecosystem management, restoration, and adaptation
Projects that inform these case studies are being implemented by Tribal, state, and federal land managers, researchers undertaking applied science, and private landowners and ranchers. The case studies should emphasize transferable lessons learned from the experience of case study contributors and increase peer-to-peer communication among this broad range of stakeholders.
Duties will include:
· Conduct and transcribe interviews with natural resource professionals
· Gather and synthesize information about on-the-ground research and management actions
· Write and publish case studies presented as online StoryMaps and accompanying 2-page handouts
· As appropriate, facilitate meetings and workshops, build relationships, and develop tools that support natural resource management
· Meet regularly with mentors from CCAST (virtual meetings)
· Assist in the development of other science communication products and with outreach to diverse audiences as appropriate
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
