Job Description
This position is located in the Water Quality Division - Public Water Supply Engineering and Enforcement Section in Oklahoma City.
Basic Purpose
Oversight of public water supply system operations, including responding to citizen complaints and emergencies, performing engineering investigations, evaluations, and sanitary surveys, and enforcement of federal and state rules and regulations to protect public health and the environment.

Typical Functions
- Respond to and investigate complaints involving PWS systems
- Perform sanitary survey inspections on PWS systems
- Ensure protection of public health through implementation of state and federal regulations
- Respond to PWS emergencies and perform engineering investigations
- Provide onsite and offsite engineering technical assistance to PWS systems
Education and Experience
Level I - bachelor’s degree in engineering from a college or university which is recognized by the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Level II - registration as an Engineer Intern.
Level III - registration as an Engineer Intern and one year experience in the practice of engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting the completion of a master’s degree in engineering for the required one year of experience in the practice of engineering.
Level IV - registration as an Engineer Intern and two years of experience in the practice of engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting a master’s degree in engineering for one year of experience in the practice of engineering.
To be considered for this position applicants must be within 60 days of obtaining their degree.
Special Requirements
Persons with out of state registration as an Engineer Intern must transfer their registration with the State of Oklahoma through the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors no later than six months from the date of appointment. Persons will not be granted permanent status without a valid Oklahoma registration as an Engineer Intern.
Preference
Preference is given for those who meet the qualifications for Level II-IV (i.e., registered as an Engineer Intern) and for those who hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering in a relevant field (environmental, civil, chemical, or mechanical).
Travel Requirements
Engineer Interns must be able to travel throughout the state, potentially driving for several hours in daylight and darkness, and occasionally staying overnight with little notice. Engineer Interns must have a valid Oklahoma driver's license.
Physical Requirements
Engineer Interns must be able to operate a personal computer for long periods of time, walk long distances or spend long hours on their feet, walk over a variety of terrain such as loose gravel, slopes, excavated areas and construction sites, climb ladders or stairs, carry equipment or supplies up to 50 pounds, and handle extremes of heat or cold, inclement weather, and occasional exposure to strong odors and various pollutants.
