DOE Omni Technology Alliance Internship Program: Apply by Feb. 15

The DOE Omni Technology Alliance Internship Program provides paid 10-week summer internships for up to three consecutive summers for talented undergraduate and graduate students in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and other related fields.

Interns will hold appointments at DOE national laboratories, Power Marketing Administrations (PMAs), plants, DOE Headquarters, and other approved sites.

Interns will receive hands-on experience in an immersive environment that provides them with an understanding of the mission, operations, and culture of DOE. Moreover, interns will be mentored by leading scientists, engineers, and other top professionals to address cybersecurity and information technology challenges while gaining valuable, real-world experience to complement their education and open opportunities for careers within the federal government.

 

ELIGIBILITY

You must meet the following requirements to be eligible for an internship:

  • Be at least 18 years of age by June 5. 
  • Be a U.S. citizen. Selected candidates must provide suitable documentation to verify citizenship as requested. 
  • Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited institute of higher education or an institution approved by DOE, and be pursuing a degree in cybersecurity, information technology (IT), engineering or other IT-related fields
    OR 
  • Be a recent graduate who has graduated with an associate's degree or bachelor's degree, has completed a combined BS/MS program, or has completed a graduate degree program in cybersecurity, information technology (IT), engineering or other IT-related fields. The time period between receipt of an undergraduate or graduate degree and starting the Omni Program must be two years or less.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0. 
  • Be available to participate in the full 10-week appointment beginning on June 5, 2023. Exceptions to the proposed schedule may be considered on a case-by-case basis to accommodate candidate’s academic schedule.

Operation and Maintenance Technician

(a) Job responsibilities:
1. Be responsible for the operation and maintenance of market mining machine brands (ANT miner, MicroBT/whatsminer, innosilicon, and Avalon) and associated models;
2. Be responsible for assisting the debugging and maintenance of network equipment on site;
3. Monitor and report mining machine operation status following the requirements of the company, and deal with abnormal faults of mining machine in time;
4. Complete the daily work report based on the company's requirements.
5. Notify the management promptly when the miner fails;
6. On-site necessary maintenance and replacement of faulty miner;
7. Complete other assigned tasks by the company in required timeframe.

(b)Job requirements:
1. Familiar with computer structure, and experience with computer repair and maintenance (proficient in the debugging, troubleshooting, and handling of computer) is preferred but not required;

Under the mentorship of NSF-NCSES staff, you may participate in the following activities:

  • Planning, implementation, and management of record systems, as well as in-house digitization and electronic records management to comply with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) Archives and Records Centers Information System requirements, ensuring the appropriate creation, review, and implementation of electronic record keeping requirements, including file plans, retention schedules, reports, analyses. Coordinating transfer of records, as appropriate, to NARA. 
  • Collaborating with the subject matter expert (SME) and advising senior leadership, data officers, and staff on the most efficient method for managing records, including data, based on the requirements in the Federal Records Act as amended in 2014, associated regulations, 32 CFR 2002, records policies and procedures, and best practices. 
  • Briefing and providing Records and Information Management (RIM) guidance, training, and status to senior leadership, records liaisons, records custodians, and stakeholders. 
  • Staying abreast of emerging Executive Orders, NARA guidance, and related best practices and compliance requirements. 
  • Collaborating with stakeholders and customers to translate business requirements along with records management policies and directives into functional requirements. 
  • Participating in the RIM program to ensure efficiency and effectiveness and serving on the Records Management Working Group under the Data Governance Board. 
  • Researching, analyzing, and presenting records management policy issues initiated through specific case review. 
  • Identifying procedures that improve the effectiveness and efficiency in the life cycle management (e.g., creating, retention, maintenance, processing, access, and disposition) of a records and information program to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies. 
  • Modernizing records management functions by assisting the transition from paper records to digital and electronic records. Inspecting retention of information and data necessary to facilitate business processes, including records in all formats such as electronic, paper, photographs, microforms, and audiovisual and electronic media for all offices.

Opportunities with NCSES Record Management Project are open to students and recent graduates. 

To qualify for this opportunity, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older by the application deadline.
  • Have completed the degree requirement or received a Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university. Selected candidate must provide proof of completion of degree requirements before the appointment can start.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience with and knowledge of SharePoint

About the Program

The Intelligence Community (IC) Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program was established in 2000 to support unclassified basic research in areas of interest to the IC. Funded primarily by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the program annually supports several postdoctoral fellows from U.S. accredited colleges, universities, and U.S. Government laboratories across the country.

In collaboration with research advisors, postdocs develop and submit technical research proposals that align with research opportunities proposed by the IC. The research is conducted by the postdocs while working in partnership with the research advisor, and collaborating with an advisor from the Intelligence Community.

Postdoc Eligibility

  • U.S. citizenship required 
  • Ph.D. received within 5 years of Oct. 1, 2023
