Tenure-track appointment in Engineering or Applied Physics at Siena College

We are carrying out a search for a tenure-track appointment in Engineering or Applied Physics at Siena College and would be grateful for your help in bringing our job posting to the attention of as many individuals as possible--

If you have specific candidates in mind, we would also appreciate it if you would share their contact information with us so we may also reach out to them directly.

We seek candidates with broad intellectual interests who are committed to teaching and establishing an active research program involving undergraduate students. Siena College has one of the largest baccalaureate physics departments in the country and nine full-time faculty with broad research interests. Our Applied Physics program is among the newest and fastest-growing programs within the department, and we envision the new faculty member will be able to play a leadership role in maintaining and growing this program.

Finally, we are especially interested in recruiting and retaining a diverse group of faculty. Three (out of nine) of our faculty are women and 40% of our B.S. degrees have been awarded to women, roughly double the national average. We hope the new faculty member will help strengthen and build upon these successes.

DOE Office of Technology Transitions Entrepreneurship Program

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Technology Transitions (OTT) Entrepreneurship Program, provides students with both a stipend and great opportunities for learning and networking.

This program kicked off last year, and here’s what some of our inaugural participants had to say about their experience:

“The weekly lectures have been immensely helpful as we navigate the intersection of technology and commercialization. I have been pleasantly surprised that this program is not only about helping the national labs but also largely focused on educating the interns about entrepreneurship.”

“I feel as though it is (...) a very enriching experience.  There are amazing guest lectures/speakers...”

“I had a great experience overall and would definitely recommend it if a friend was looking for a summer opportunity.”

“This program was an amazing experience and I’m glad to have been able to participate in it.”

We are confident the program will be even better this summer, and invite your students to apply. The application is available through Zintellect and is due January 3, 2022.

Here’s what your students can expect from the DOE OTT Entrepreneurship Program:

The DOE OTT Entrepreneurship Program gives students the opportunity to participate in research, technical or policy-related projects under the mentorship of technology transfer specialists and OTT staff. They will come away with a better understanding of how technology transitions from the lab into practice, and gain insight into how this is influenced by the policies created and implemented by our federal government.  This is a fantastic opportunity for students who see themselves as entrepreneurs as well as scientists or engineers to expand their skills outside the classroom and beyond pure science and engineering....and get paid $700/week to do it!

More details:

Travel and Housing

If eligible, students may also receive up to $1,000 for inbound and outbound transportation expenses and a stipend supplement of $150 per week.

Location:

Available opportunities may be available at OTT headquarters, DOE national laboratories and other OTT-approved facilities across the United States. In response to the evolving situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic, appointments may be hosted virtually.

Duration:

Internships will be for 10-12 consecutive weeks beginning in June 2022.

Eligibility

·       Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident. Selected candidates must provide suitable documentation to verify status at the time appointment is accepted.

·       Be at least 18 years old by June 1, 2022.

·       Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student pursuing a degree in science, technology, mathematics, engineering, or business with an interest in entrepreneurship and technology commercialization. Applicants must provide proof of enrollment at the time of application.
