Research Associate: Advanced Radar Techniques Team - Career-track MS Level

Position Description 

This is a career-track MS-level research associate position on the Advanced Radar Techniques Team at the Cooperative Institute for Severe and High-Impact Weather Research and Operations (CIWRO, formerly CIMMS) at the University of Oklahoma (OU) in collaboration with NOAA’s National Severe Storms Laboratory. 

Overview 

The incumbent will contribute to research and development in the field of weather radar technology. The ideal candidate is someone who wants to be part of a highly collaborative team and is interested in developing cutting-edge weather-radar technology. The position is based at the National Weather Center in Norman, OK (bit.ly/oklanwc). The Advanced Radar Techniques team is a highly energetic group of scientists and engineers who conduct research and development of innovative signal-processing and remote-sensing techniques to improve the quality of meteorological products from weather radars. Our mission includes the exploration, implementation, and demonstration of unique capabilities offered by phased-array radar for weather observations; and the transfer of technology to existing radar systems in government, public, and private organizations. Job Responsibilities 

  • • Work in an interdisciplinary team to develop weather-radar signal processing techniques. 
  • • Work in an interdisciplinary team to design, implement, and demonstrate advanced weather-sensing techniques using phased-array radar systems. 
  • • Support research and development efforts in one or more technical areas. 
  • • Engage the broader research community through public dissemination of research. 


Qualifications 

  • • United States citizenship or permanent residency. 
  • • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field). 
  • • Expertise in digital signal processing. 
  • • Proficiency and demonstrated experience developing simulations (preferably using MATLAB). 
  • • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • • Ability to work and communicate effectively in diverse team environments. 


This position does not require specialized knowledge of remote sensing, radar systems, or atmospheric science.
